Roger Gildersleeve, M.D., Diplomate American Board of Family Medicine

Dr. Gildersleeve is the President and founding member of Sage Family Medicine. He is a Board Certified Family Physician, and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. His training includes a B.A. with Honors in Russian Literature from the University of Texas at Austin. He attended the University of Texas at Houston Medical School, Class of 2002, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Following medical school, Dr. Gildersleeve completed his internship in Family and Community Medicine at the University of New Mexico Health Science Center. Dr. Gildersleeve then completed his residency training at the Northern New Mexico Family Practice Residency Program in Santa Fe, NM. After residency, Dr. Gildersleeve accepted a position as an attending physician at La Familia Medical Center, a Community Health Center in Santa Fe, where he served as a hospitalist. He was the attending physician for the residents of the Northern New Mexico Family Practice Residency during their inpatient rotations. In this role, he taught and delivered inpatient care to the full range of family medicine patients, including maternity, newborn and pediatrics, and adult medicine.

Dr. Gildersleeve returned to the Austin/Round Rock area to establish Sage Family Medicine. Sage represents his effort to deliver a new model of Family Medicine based on the Future of Family Medicine Project. In short, Sage is a patient-centered medical home, delivering a high quality full range of services to individuals and families in the community.  Open access scheduling means that the patient can see their own doctor when they need to. Using computer technology, the patient will have access to their important health information from wherever they are located. Patients will be able to view their own laboratory or x-ray studies, and appointments will be used for instances in which face-to-face contact is required. This should reduce cost and provide convenience to the patient. Of course, if the patient prefers to have all interactions by meeting personally with the doctor, that is also possible. In this case, technology is only used to provide the same compassionate, personal care with added convenience for the patient. Wouldn’t it be nice to fill out those forms from the comfort of your own home with the luxury of being able to call up your mom and ask “what was that surgery I had as a child?”  The Sage philosophy is that technology can be used to make the patient’s life better, not just the doctor’s.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Gildersleeve enjoys live music, jogging, downhill skiing, and literature. Most of his time is spent with his wife of nine years and their three children. They enjoy the hike-and bike trail at Town Lake, and Barton Springs for a cool dip on the weekends.
